Fill your week of pirates, scoring the most points in the process. Lots of new cards, and the first of the Days series of games to include Dice - for blasting pirates with a Cannon card or duelling with an opposing pirate. A short take-that strategic game.
Each turn you draw a card or play a card until one player fills their week of pirates - then you add up the current scores to see who has won.
One deck is needed per two people playing.
Set Up
- Lay out the 7 days of the week cards in front of each player from Monday to Sunday.
- The 7 days in front of each player is known as their board.
- If more than 2 players are playing, you will need more decks.
- Shuffle the play cards thoroughly, using 1 deck for 2 players, more if you have more players.
- Separate out the Crows Nest cards.
- Deal a Crows Nest card and 4 play cards to each player.
- Give each player one dice.
CROW’S NEST
This card can be placed as a turn at any point in the game on Tuesday to Saturday. When it is played, place it above the day concerned. If a pirate is on this day, choose whether to move this pirate to the Crows Nest. The pirate can be moved at any time on your turn to the main ship or back to the Crows Nest. A second pirate can be played on this day at any time and you choose which one is in the Crows Nest. If played on a day with more than 2 pirates, the top two now score with one going to the Crows Nest. The Parrot, X Marks the Spot or Pieces of Eight can be with a pirate in the Crows Nest, but not the Ship’s Cat.
Playing the Game
- The player who most looks like a pirate goes first.
- Each turn, you take one action
- Draw a card OR Play a card
- The card is drawn from the top of the deck
Playing a card
- The rules are shown on each card
- A card is USUALLY played on your own board and on an empty day.
- Only when a card says ON ANY BOARD can it also be played on another player’s board
- When a card says ON TOP OF or ON is it played on top of another card, the card MUST be placed on top of another card, covering over its score.
- If it does not say ON TOP OF or ON, then it must usually be placed on an eligible empty day. There are more exceptions to this in Pirate Days than other Days Games. The Crows Nest can be played on any day Tuesday to Saturday, with or without pirates. The cards with + scores can also be placed with other pirates i.e. Pieces of Eight, Parrot, X Marks the Spot and Ship’s Cat. See the rules for each of these cards below.
- The scores are on the top of each card, showing on both sides so both left-handed and right-handed players can look at their cards easily.
There is no hand limit.
PIECES OF EIGHT
Play on top of any pirate on your own ship to add +2 to their score. If the pirate is swapped or removed, goes with the pirate.
PARROT
Play on top of any pirate on your own ship to add +2 to their score. If the pirate is swapped or removed, goes with the pirate.
X MARKS THE SPOT
Roll the die and add to this day on any ship. The day MUST have a pirate on it and it must be played if it can be. If all days of the day rolled are empty, discard the card and the treasure is lost. Adds +2 to the day it is placed on and stays on this day other than if a cannon destroys this day.
SHIP’S CAT
Can be played on a Friday or Saturday on your own ship. Can be played both if the day is empty or if there is a pirate on the day. Adds +2 to the pirate score on that day. Tuck under the top pirate to make this obvious. If the pirate is swapped or removed, the cat does not move unless the cannon destroys the whole day’s cards. Does not count as filling the day. Can be with the pirate below the Crows Nest but not the pirate in the Crows Nest.
Game End
- The game ends when one player has a pirate on every day of the week.
- You then add up the scores to see who wins.
- In the event of a tie, play again to determine a winner as this is a very short game.
- In the event of a further tie, those who are tied roll the die for a duel and the highest score wins.
